anna and i (candice) are looking at how we can offer our stakeholders more control over the sound they hear – a way to manipulate existing sound in the city, in a particular space. we think that this personalisation of sound will make an intimate experience which becomes a form of respite or fermata in a soundscape of relatively large and distant sound. we already have a couple of ideas about how we will propose this for the next exhibition- to funnel sound into a small space (say like a sculpture with vents) and contain it momentarily, and  then letting it out at the users’ discretion ( if this is possible ?).  the other idea is about encouraging users to shut out city sounds by offering a medium for them to communicate their own sounds- for example a chinese whispers wall (interpretation open on that by the way).

Silence and Other Ways

So far you have been exploring your ideas in relation to your experiences and observations.Now we ask you to extend your work in relation to potential users / actants that could be implicated and impacted by your design proposition.You need to identify who could be the stakeholders in your project.Think about the specifics of your current idea (or where it might go from here).Locate / find a group of people who might have a stake in your project and develop a working relationship with them [approach them, talk to them, listen t their take on sound in the city]This is also a design problem, not just a case of finding people.Remake, rework and develop the idea of your mid semester exhibition.Think about how you can use design to include real stakeholders – invite them to the exhibition, work with them.Start using the blog as a way of discussing your ideas. 

21st SeptemberExhibition (fermata event two):Must be publicly accessible and outside of rmit – but in the CBDRevise and develop in light of feedback from stakeholders etc for final submission.
