“Convergence”
This is the final book.
This book is your “brief” for your design intervention for the final event (fermata 3) on
Thursday the 2nd November opening at 5pm.
This will need to relate to
a) the design studio agenda
b) your take on sites of respite
c) your studies and explorations of sound and the city so far
The book acts as an opportunity to collect, refine and clearly communicate your ideas/propositions.
It will be presented to a panel for assessment on Thursday the 26th of October from 9:30-6:30.
Therefore your book will need to function as a public presentation.
The due dates for books 4 and 5 have been modified.
Draft versions are due on Thursday the 26th of October from 9:30-6:30
Final and revised versions are now due on Friday the 10th at 9:30 am
on level four, building 87.

After discussion on friday it has been agreed that we each produce a black and white poster (A1) which communicates your concept and chosen direction.
We will meet in the laneway at 3 to set up – this will include postioning of posters (PVA glue – poster graff stylin’) and set of audio visual equipment.
We hope to provide a soundscape for the night = rigging up temporary speakers and lighting..
Anyone who has produced sonic data which you think would be beneficial to the atmos…please “SAY IT” and we will try to encorporate them.
CALL FOR Digital AUDIO editing skills – ANYONE – hewie! your piece last time was rad! and we suspect Rohan and John (of invite making fame) might have some stuff up their sleeve- – how about doin us an audio collage for the exhib…
maybe we can arrange a meeting of minds early next week to nut out techie stuff…?
Liam can you please arrange to borrow as many data projectors and laptops as poss?

I’ve tried to post this on the site about a thousand times, and by one thousand I mean about 3. The invites can be located @ http://www.auxylari.com/fermata3.pdf (it’s not actually fermata 3 either, that’s just a file save incrementation)
Any problems let me now ASAP and I’ll amend them by this afternoon.
Cheers

Hi all – been scoping sites – at this stage there is the old reliable McCullock Gallery, Rankins Lane (just off Little Bourke between Elizabeth and Queen) and also the old Harley Heaven Place on the same street as Melbourne Artist Supplies – it is empty and warehouse-like – but i think there is running water and electricity – i have a number to contact and will confirm availability. Pics to come…fingers in knots etc..
hi silencios,
anna and i (candice) are looking at how we can offer our stakeholders more control over the sound they hear – a way to manipulate existing sound in the city, in a particular space. we think that this personalisation of sound will make an intimate experience which becomes a form of respite or fermata in a soundscape of relatively large and distant sound. we already have a couple of ideas about how we will propose this for the next exhibition- to funnel sound into a small space (say like a sculpture with vents) and contain it momentarily, and then letting it out at the users’ discretion ( if this is possible ?). the other idea is about encouraging users to shut out city sounds by offering a medium for them to communicate their own sounds- for example a chinese whispers wall (interpretation open on that by the way).
what do you think – go on….
